Happy Monday traveler!
This week’s journey takes us to Melbourne, Australia, a city celebrated for its creativity, love of sports, incredible food scene, and access to some of the country’s most breathtaking coastal landscapes.
This place has big-city energy with a relaxed vibe, making it a destination that feels welcoming from the moment you arrive.
It’s known for being the second most livable city in the world (behind Copenhagen). We found it to be large and busy but easy to get around and appreciate the modern and healthy lifestyle.
Melbourne has an ideal blend of culture, history, food, and natural beauty. It’s a destination that inspires curiosity and leaves you wanting to explore more of Australia. You might call it a “gateway” to more inspiration.
We were inspired by the modern but active lifestyle of the locals. It’s no wonder it’s considered so livable. Let’s see if you want to visit. 😉

🙌🏼This Week’s Inspiration
Melbourne is located in the state of Victoria and should not be overlooked by other big Australian cities like Sydney or Brisbane.
One thing about Australia is the population in the major cities. Melbourne has a population of around 5 million people.
Compare that to places such as New York City, which has a population of around 20 million, and you’ll realize how less crowded these places are in Australia. It’s all the more reason to visit Down Under.

Our first glimpse at the city while riding the SkyBus from the airport
We wished we would have spent a few extra days in Melbourne but managed to pack in as much as we could while there. Here are some places you should check out:
Federation Square is the heart of Melbourne and a natural starting point for exploring the city. It is a lively public space where locals gather for events, live music, and festivals. You will also find museums, galleries, cafés, and easy access to the Yarra River from here.
Flinders Street Station is Melbourne’s most iconic railway station, known for its grand yellow façade, arched entrance, and row of clocks that locals still use as a meeting point. Opened in 1910, it sits on the edge of the Yarra River and serves as the busiest train station in Australia.

Hosier Lane is one of Melbourne’s most photographed spots and a symbol of the city’s street art culture. The walls are covered in colorful murals, stencils, and messages that change constantly. Every visit feels different, making it a must-see even if you have been before.
Walking along the Yarra River offers a slower way to experience Melbourne. The river path winds past restaurants, parks, and cultural landmarks. It is especially beautiful in the evening when city lights reflect on the water.

Yarra River
Rod Laver Arena is one of the most famous sports venues in the world and the centerpiece of Melbourne Park. It is best known as the home of the Australian Open, which started yesterday, and brings global attention and excitement to the city. Even outside tournament time, tours and events make this a worthwhile stop.

Queen Victoria Market is a food lover’s dream and a true Melbourne institution. The market has been operating for over a century and offers fresh produce, baked goods, street food, and local products. It is a great place to sample Australian flavors and experience everyday life in the city. Make sure to pick up a scallop pie while you are there.
The Royal Botanic Gardens provide a peaceful escape just minutes from the city center. With lakes, walking trails, and thousands of plant species, it is a perfect place to relax or picnic. The gardens also offer stunning views back toward Melbourne’s skyline.

Royal Botanic Gardens
The National Gallery of Victoria, often called the NGV, is Australia’s oldest and most visited art museum. Inside, you will find everything from international masterpieces to Australian and Indigenous art. Even the building itself is impressive and worth a visit.
If you have extra time in Melbourne, we highly recommend checking out Phillip Island to see the fairy penguins there. We will absolutely do this the next time we go.

How to Get to Melbourne:
Most visitors arrive at Melbourne Airport, also called Tullamarine Airport, which serves both international and domestic flights.
The airport is about 30 minutes from the city center. Travelers can reach downtown using the SkyBus, taxis, or rideshare services.

What to Eat:
While in Melbourne, try a classic meat pie, fresh seafood, and Australian-style avocado toast.
Tim Tams are a favorite sweet treat, and Vegemite is an iconic spread worth tasting at least once.
Melbourne is also famous for its café culture, so excellent coffee is everywhere.
What to Pack:
Pack comfortable walking shoes since exploring Melbourne involves plenty of walking. Bring layers because the weather can change quickly throughout the day.
